GB LABS: Storage and archiving platforms for the media industry.

Workflows are becoming more and more challenging. 4K is spreading faster and faster and 8K is starting to be a new reality. Most creative teams need a platform where they can securely share and store assets.

Dedicated to Archiving needs, GB Labs solutions include Disaster Recovery, Data Analysis, Asset Management, Backups, and Archiving, with AI-enabled Broadband Control/Data Distribution.

The investment will bring greater productivity and efficiency to create workgroups

  • It makes workflows faster by not having to copy files between computers, saving you time and money.
  • Files can be used by multiple users at the same time. Ideal for collaborative work to achieve more creative results with greater efficiency.
  • Compatible with all systems: PC, MAC, or Linux.
  • MAM and file: File sharing is essential. Allows the organization of Assets.
  • Security: Highly protected RAID storage with a backup.
  • GB Labs solutions are easily scalable in terms of capacity and performance, which means you can purchase as your business grows, which makes your initial investment lower.

GB Labs uses various technologies to achieve resilience in many types of applications from broadcast to post-production.

We would like to share with you the solution to one of the most common problems when it comes to data storage -> Disaster Recovery!

The Cloak DR (Disaster Recovery) system

This is an intelligent storage platform, which can be adjusted for various types of digital content, for lighter files such as documents and images, but also for storing, for example, footage from an 8K Raw camera without compromising on quality.

While motherboard failures are rare, they are still a possibility and a total impediment to a storage server. In addition, it also makes it impossible to use any other additional protection that may be inside a server. Human errors, power failures, fires, floods, earthquakes, theft, etc. are, among many other situations, possible causes for a server to become unusable.

Despite all the additional protections that can be placed on a server, it will never be infallible against these situations. Therefore, to avoid this, you need at least two copies of the data.

Problem: Clustered Storage

"Clustered storage" or "scale out storage" is the name given to a system with the use of two or more storage servers, working together, in order to increase both performance and capacity and/or safety. The reality is that this “Clustered storage” system has several disadvantages such as reduced performance levels that make them unusable.

When one of these servers is lost, the entire cluster suffers a performance drop, and once it is repaired, the file system has to “re-optimize” again, which slows everything down. These situations can become frequent considering that even the deletion of large amounts of data can cause these “optimizations”.

In addition, there is still the problem of seeing the storage of the two servers on networks with different IPs, which forces us to have to redirect clients and servers to another IP address. This process, in addition to being manual, is not very efficient.

Solution:

Cloak DR, to solve this problem, presents two servers both with a unique IP address, which makes it not necessary to redirect users to a different address even when a server is completely removed - by accident or intentionally if, for example, routine maintenance is in progress.

It only takes 1 second for a (totally separate) storage server with equal performance to take over and maintain active access to all data for users and servers on the network with the same IP address.

How does it work?

Cloak Link: There is a high-speed network connection between the two systems used to transfer the storage data.

Pulse Link: A network link between the two systems is used as the link to detect the failure between the systems.

Failover Link: A pair of ports between the two systems is shared as a single IP address. The primary system will have the IP address by default, but it will be changed to the secondary in case of failure.

In conclusion, Cloak DR offers two high-performance, combined storage servers for uninterrupted access to all your data. Do not slow down when one of them cannot be used.

It is the most logical and efficient solution for data recovery in the event of a disaster.

Additional information:

Cloak DR offers a complete data recovery solution with the physical ability to separate two storage servers across large distances. This trumps anything we discussed earlier, such as hardware failures or force majeure. (It is not feasible to do this with the purchase of two “clusters” and then place them in separate locations, as this option, in addition to not being the most logical, is synonymous with a great financial cost).
