Ross Video presents the Ultrix FR30, a new generation of hyperconverged media infrastructure designed for large broadcast, sports, live production and media operations.
There is an increasingly evident contradiction in professional audiovisual production: we want to produce more, in more formats, for more platforms and with higher quality, but we do not want to add more complexity with every new requirement.
It is in this challenge that Ross Video places its latest solution. The Ultrix FR30 is the newest member of the Ultrix family and represents a significant expansion of the platform for larger-scale environments. The proposal is simple to explain, although technically it is considerably more complex: to concentrate more production and processing capacity in a single, flexible and software-defined infrastructure.
And more capacity does not necessarily mean more complexity.
In traditional infrastructures, an operation may need different systems for routing, signal processing, multiviewing, audio, production and control. In this way, as the operation grows, so does the number of equipment, connections, cables, space requirements, energy consumption and, inevitably, the complexity of managing all of this.
The Ultrix FR30 starts from a different philosophy. The platform brings together high-capacity routing, multiviewing, audio and video processing, media gateway, production, screen processing and control in a single infrastructure. And, thanks to its software-defined architecture, new functionalities can be activated through licensing as the operation's requirements evolve. In other words, the infrastructure stops being just what is installed today and becomes a platform prepared for what will be needed tomorrow.
30RU
The name FR30 also translates a change of scale within the Ultrix family. Ross Video moves from compact 1RU systems to a 30RU platform, capable of supporting up to 576×576 UHD inputs and outputs in a single chassis, while also being able to combine several chassis for larger installations.
In addition, Ross Video maintains the same logic of interchangeable inputs and outputs, software architecture, licensing model and operational workflows of the Ultrix family. For organisations that already work with the platform, this means a simpler approach to expansion, without requiring the entire infrastructure to be reinvented as the installation grows.
Less space. Less energy. Fewer cables.
According to Ross Video, when compared with traditional broadcast infrastructures, the Ultrix FR30 can allow up to 97% reduction in rack space, 89% in energy consumption and 95% in cabling.
More than a matter of technical organisation, this approach can have a direct impact on operating costs, cooling requirements, installation and expansion capacity, since in a world where technical space, energy and engineering resources are increasingly important, doing more with less has ceased to be just an advantage; it has become a necessity.
IP
Another important characteristic of the Ultrix FR30 is its ability to work with different media formats and transports. The platform supports SDI, SMPTE ST 2110, NDI, Dante, SRT and JPEG XS, among other standards, allowing existing workflows to be combined with new IP architectures.
This approach is particularly relevant at a time when many organisations are making the transition to IP, but cannot, or do not need to, abandon all existing infrastructures from one day to the next. The Ultrix FR30 seeks to function precisely as that bridge: between what an operation already has and what it intends to build.
The presentation of the Ultrix FR30 took place in the context of IBC 2026, where Ross Video demonstrated the new platform at its stand in Amsterdam. It was presented as a solution aimed at broadcasters, sports venues, OB providers, corporate studios and media organisations looking to build larger and smarter infrastructures with less complexity.
