JVC occasionally launches new firmware versions for their products, and this time around, version 1.0.3 is now available for the BR-DE900, an h264 h265/HEVC high performance streaming decoder, which with this release, adds the ability to decode SRT protocols, a protocol which is now a feature on JVC’s GY-HC shoulder and handheld camcoders.

The BR-DE900 is a decoder designed to work 24h/365 days. It works with different protocols and it can be configured to have its fixed resolution output to match our production workflow’s resolution. This is a great advantage, since the input signal can come in different resolutions or bit rates, but its output does not change, avoiding problems in the production workflow.

When working with protocols (Push), where the decoder is listening, such as UDP, SRT, ZIXI, one single decoder can receive streams from multiple cameras (not simultaneously) without having to change the decoder’s configuration.

The cameras in this case, do not need to be configured at the destination either, but they do have flexibility to adjust the resolution or the bit rate to accommodate the streaming to the available bandwidth, without it affecting change in resolution at the BR-DE900 decoder’s output.

Both the JVC GY-HC series cameras (with the KA-EN200) and this decoder, the BR-DE900, come with HEVC encoding ability, allowing for the reduction of the data packet size, and consequently greatly reducing the required bandwidth. To the Zixi (license required) or SRT protocols, which are very efficient and stable, available on the BR-DE900, we add broadcasting with HEVC encoding, which reduces the bandwidth, together with the technological improvements in the public phone network provides, making it easier for any video broadcast to be done live via IP without the need to have large amounts of bandwidth available.

To add SRT to the BR-DE900 we simply need to update the product.

The firmware update process for the ProHD BR-DE900 requires uploading a .TAR archive via the HTTPS user interface. This allows the unit to extract the required files and install the update automatically.
